Fishin' and Fryin'
Tackle boxes…check. Fishing rods and bait…check. Grill and tents…check.
Individuals got up before the hustle and bustle of a busy day, checking off items on a list in preparation for a fun day of fishing. The Rainbow Lakes First Annual Tournament and Fish Fry was held on October 16; winners were to receive $300 for first place, $150 for second place, and $50 for third place.
Before long, dozens of lines trailed out into the lakes, while participants patiently awaited the tug of scaly visitors. Sponsored by the Town of Anthony, Rainbow Lakes, and Mo’z Barbeque, this event attracted people from all over the southwest area.
"We got here at about 6:00 a.m.," says Lacklan Deemer, an attendee traveling from Chaparral. He and a few friends decided to spend their Saturday relaxing by the lakes.
"I am happy the Rainbow Lakes is sponsoring an event like this," commented Eric Atwood. "It is a good recreational activity for people of all ages. It’s particularly beneficial for the youth, as it keeps them out of trouble."
The fishing grounds were full of families and groups of friends. Oscar Lopez, a regular attendee at Rainbow Lakes, explained that fishing at the lakes allows him to spend quality time with his family. The Lopez family has been visiting Rainbow Lakes for over a decade.
The Rainbow Lakes owner, Morris Williams, expressed excitement about the lakes' recent transformation. "I have been restructuring the place. I have brought in ducks and geese, new porta johns, and a better aquaculture to manage the water in the lakes." Morris plans on opening up a store, kiddie pond, restaurant, picnic area, and pavilion in the near future.
Tavo, another regular at the lakes, commented on the recent transformation, "I really like what Morris has done to the place. It is one of the best things that has happened to Anthony. It’s beautiful."
Surrounded by the natural beauty of the outdoors and enveloped by the warmth and comfort of family and friends, events like this one are a fall favorite.
