4th of July a la Anthony, TX

Fourth of July festivities for the Town of Anthony this year were the greatest yet. It all began with a weekend-long festival that had something for everyone. Would you want to impress your better half by winning a big, stuffed bear? Check. Would you want to beat the heat with some aguas frescas? Check. Would you want to watch "El Atomico" lay down some justice with the super plancha? Check. A mechanical bull also taunted guests with its still, yet menacing demeanor.

Said a satisfied lady, "I liked everything, and the kids getting in free was a big plus." A beautiful golden sunset, fresh breeze, and live jazz and cumbias provided an excellent backdrop to all of the fun. The festival ended with a spectacular fireworks display that brought chills to spectators with its loud booms and brilliant flashes of red, white, and blue.

The celebrations closed on a very uplifting note with a town family favorite… the annual parade. It began by honoring the reason for this grand nation's independence, our war veterans. Time flew by as spectators watched the Anthony High School cheerleaders, Fire Dawgs little league baseball team, Girl Scouts and many other organizations that took part in this year's exciting line-up. "The parade seemed bigger this year, and every year I come from Canutillo to see it", one woman said; perfect testimony of the rise of the Town of Anthony, one 4th of July at a time.
